Frequently asked questions
My life is boring. Who would be interested?
So you haven’t won an Olympic medal or a Nobel Prize? Neither did my grandmother! Yet she is a hero not only to me, but to all of her children and grandchildren. To us, the stories of her life are inspiring, illuminating, and fascinating. Her stories about the War helped us through a pandemic. Her stories about the pranks her 12 siblings played on each other make us laugh. No-one else could tell us those stories, and we will always be grateful that she shared them with us.
What about the things I’d rather forget?
Everyone’s story has hard chapters; mistakes, tragedies, and trials make us human. Knowing that our ancestors’ perseverence through difficult times can be a source of strength as we face our own struggles, I encourage you to share as much as you are comfortable sharing—but I will never push you to include anything you would rather not. This is your story and you are in control of how it is told.
How much does it cost?
A basic package for an individual’s life story includes 4 copies of a hardcover 80- to 100-page book and costs $6,000. This is a significant investment, but consideration of the typical amount spent on professional photos for one-day events (like weddings) might give some perspective. Perhaps this is the perfect gift for you and your siblings to give to your parents . . . or perhaps this is the perfect gift to give your children! The stories of your life will be preserved for generations—to give your loved ones insight, comfort, humor, and a sense of their own personal history.
Could I purchase a book telling both my parents’ stories?
Yes! A couple’s book typically consists of several chapters of each parent’s childhood/pre-meeting stories and then "joint chapters" after their stories become intertwined. The cost of a couple’s book is $9,000 and will be approximately 120-150 pages.
How long does it take?
Timing is flexible, but you can expect to receive your book 4-6 months after our first interview, if not sooner.
